Whither Gooch?

Long the bedrock of the U.S. Men’s National Team’s central defense, Oguchi Onyewu’s club career appears ready to enter a new phase. Or does it? While no fewer than half a dozen teams are reportedly bidding for Onyewu’s services, the 27-year old is now saying he will not close the door to a return to Standard Liege, where he has been under (a now expired) contract since 2004.

Gregg Berhalter has been released from his contract with German second division side 1860 Munich and has signed a two-year contract with Major League Soccer, the team announced Wednesday (links to German press release). The 35-year old defender appears headed to the LA Galaxy.

Donovan to return to Galaxy»

Bayern Munich are not interested in acquiring Landon Donovan’s rights on a permanent basis, the team’s executive director Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told German press Tuesday. This paves the way for Donovan to return to the L.A. Galaxy when his loan deal with Bayern ends March 15.

Gordon Kljestan, the older (and less famous) brother of Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan is currently on trial at German 2. Bundesliga club TuS Koblenz.

The 23-year old Hill was sought out to strengthen the 3. Bundesliga club’s attack, according to Germany’s kicker magazine.

Kljestan at Celtic»

We told you to expect this. Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan will train with Scottish champions Celtic Football Club starting Saturday, the Los Angeles-based Major League Soccer club announced Thursday.

Update, Jan. 25: Kljestan is waiting to see if $2.9 million offer from Celtic is accepted by MLS, according to the New York Times. Celtic, for its part says it will have a decision shortly, according to the Evening Times.
