We told you to expect this. Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan will train with Scottish champions Celtic Football Club starting Saturday, the Los Angeles-based Major League Soccer club announced Thursday.

Kljestan departed the U.S. Men’s National Team’s camp last night to join Celtic at its Lennoxtown training center near Glasgow. After training with Gordon Strachan’s squad for a week, Kljestan is scheduled to return to Southern California on Jan. 22, ahead of the United States’ Jan. 24 international friendly versus Sweden at The Home Depot Center.

Update, Jan. 25: Kljestan is waiting to see if $2.9 million offer from Celtic is accepted by MLS, according to the New York Times. Celtic, for its part says it will have a decision shortly, according to the Evening Times.

Reports of a Kljestan move to Europe began to surface last summer, with Strachan’s team only one of a series of clubs said to be lining up bids for the 23-year old.

ASN’s take: Kljestan is one of the most talented midfield players the U.S. has ever produced. We expect Strachan to like what he sees. Figure Kljestan to have an offer (if not a contract) in hand when he returns to L.A. for the USMNT friendly.
