Whither Gooch?

By ASN Staff • Jul 1st, 2009 • Category: Rumblings

No fewer than half a dozen teams are reportedly bidding for the services of U.S. Men’s National Team centerback Oguchi Onyewu. Various reports, mainly from Europe have linked Onyewu to Ajax Amsterdam, Fenerbahce, Paris Saint Germain, Fiorentina, Genoa, Palermo, Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers. And what would a Yank transfer story be without Fulham being listed as a possible destination?

A Dutch-language report that reported the Ajax link also said Portsmouth and Partizan Belgrade are interested.

In the past, Onyewu has been linked to Olympique Marseille and Cologne.

Keeping up with all the gossip requires proficiency in several languages but here is a partial Spanish-language summary courtesy of Goal.com.

Of course, the 27-year old may not go anywhere. According to several reports from Belgium and France, Gooch said he will not close the door to a return to Standard Liege, where he has been under (a now expired) contract since 2004.

Ajax? That's a new one, I hadn't heard that one as of yet. I would love to see him there or at PSG.
