Exclusive: Tony Taylor to Estoril

U.S. Under-20 international Tony Taylor has agreed to a deal with Portuguese second division side GD Estoril. The 19-year old striker, who was just signed by Traffic Sports USA in September, was part of Thomas Rongen’s World Cup squad this summer.

“We just agreed to terms with Estoril of Portugal. [Taylor] will be playing in Europe next year,” Traffic Sports Director of Soccer Fernando Clavijo wrote in an Email. Traffic Sports is based in Miami and own NASL club Miami FC, though Taylor does not appear to have suited up for the club itself. He played the 2008 fall season at Jacksonville University before signing on with the U-20s early this year. He tallied a goal and an assist at the World Cup, tying him with Dilly Duka and Bryan Arguez for tops on the U.S. squad. Earlier this fall Taylor was said to be close to a European deal, with training stints at clubs in Belgium and Norway as well as at Estoril, according to Yanks-Abroad. Estoril is an affiliate of Miami FC.

The team currently sit fifth in Liga Vitalis, just four points from second place that would promote them to the top flight next season.
